It means giving your best effort. Some players are taller, faster, or more skilled than others. Excellence is about maximizing the gifts God has given you and doing your best every day. Whether you’re practicing, competing, or helping a teammate, give your best effort and honor God through your actions.

Faith: We honor God through athletics, leadership, service, and daily character. Hebrews 11:1 “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” (NLT)In sports, we often have to trust the process before we see results. We practice skills, work hard, and keep improving even when we don’t see immediate success. Faith is similar. We trust God even when we don’t have all the answers. At Christian Heartland United, we believe our identity comes from God—not from wins, losses, goals, or points. We play hard, but our faith comes first.

Character: We teach integrity, accountability, humility, and respect on and off the field.Romans 5:3-4 “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character…” (NLT)Character is who you are when nobody is watching. It’s easy to have a good attitude when you’re winning. Real character shows up when a referee makes a bad call, when you’re tired, or when things don’t go your way. Sports give us opportunities to build character by choosing honesty, respect, perseverance, and self-control.

Unity: We build a culture of encouragement, teamwork, and support for athletes and families.Ecclesiastes 4:9 “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.” (NLT)Great teams aren’t made up of individuals trying to be stars. Great teams work together. In basketball, soccer, and every team sport, we need each other. Unity means encouraging teammates, communicating, helping others improve, and celebrating each other’s successes. We are stronger together than we are alone.
